  3 December 2017 - With heavy rain in the area for 1½ days, the river rose to 5.87 metres at the Heidelberg gauge, water started to flow into the billabong through the culvert and pipe, and was flowing well 30metres from the pipe, but was not visible in the billabong floor, where it was below the vegetation. 12 May 2017 - Kristin checked the chain saw hollows with a pole mounted camera and found a sugar glider in a hollow within the billabong floor...  Checked the bat tubes and found 13 bats in two tubes. One was a Wilson reserve adolescent moving out of home. Isabel & Des came and did a bird survey (3 x 20 minutes) in 3 areas and an incidental survey. They have uploaded their results to the birdlife website Survey 1, Survey 2, Survey 3, and the incidental list, Incidental Survey which lists the scarlet robin (female) which I have seen a few times over the last week or so. Boroondara backyard biodiverstity group had a guided walk around the billabong, and then planted 6 boxes of plants either side of the path next to the western woodland. Planted 27 pale Flax-lily (Dianella laevis), 27 common correa (Correa reflexa), 27 rock correa (Correa glabra), 27 basalt daisy (Brachyscome multifida) (Waverley form), 104 kidney plant (Dichondra repens), 27 wedge leaf hop bush (Dodonea viscosa), 27 hazel pomaderris (Pomaderris aspera). 27 Purple-sheath Tussock-grass, (Poa ensiformis) and 27 Austral stork's bill (Pelargonium australe) west of the billabong. 25 volunteers - 37½h work. |
